English isn’t my first language, but even I could notice it. While reading some japanese manga, I found information that ajisai were given to guests during parties. Okami gave hydrangeas people whose loyalty she wanted the win the following year. It bothers me, because, the meaning of these flowers are inconstancy, pain of soul and also strife in marriage. So how can it be related to the maintenance of one’s loyalty? Maybe you know something more about it?
PS. And in Polish name of hygrangea is hortensja. Old Japanese women told me that Ajisai means: high, violet flower. And when I check it, that’s a little bit different: ajisai in kanji is 紫陽花, where 紫 (Murasaki) – means purple or violet, 陽 (Yō) – means sun or something positive, 花(Hana) – means flower.
